The architect’s role and interactions in BIM-enabled projects
There is a growing body of research on the impact of the increased use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) on the role of construction professionals. This is an interpretive study which examines the architect’s role and interactions in interdisciplinary BIM-enabled projects using interviews and observation for collecting data. The paper contributes by building on the literatures on the effects of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and BIM on the architectural profession and role theory, by analysing the way the architect’s role and interactions might change with the implementation of BIM. The research proposes recommendations on new management practices, approaches and styles of working and processes in using BIM in construction project organizations.
