The Burgundian regnum and the Roman state
An examination of the unusual relationship between the Burgundian kingdom and the Roman state during the 6th century. This paper demonstrates that, far from being antagonistic towards the Roman empire, the Burgundians viewed their kingdom as an extension of the empire and their king as a Roman official and the military representative of the Emperor in Constantinople.
