  In response to the increasing climate disruption and global effort
towards low-carbon transition, the Irish Government has set out to
pursue a climate-resilient economy and become carbon neutral by
2050. This was set out in the Climate Action Bill published in October
2020. The transport sector in Ireland as the second-largest contributor to non-ETS carbon emissions accounts for over 27% of emissions.
The transport sector needs to reduce carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 to meet the decarbonisation target. However, the evidence has shown that the emissions from the transport sector are projected to increase by between 10% and 12% by 2020. There is still a long way to go to achieve the 2030 and 2050 targets.
