  We are witnessing an increased interest in digital health: from AI to robotics, technology is entering the healthcare environment and is proving to be an asset. During Covid-19, robots were used in hospitals to help with repetitive tasks, such as disinfection. However, despite the benefits of robotic healthcare technologies in reducing the time professionals spend on non-direct patient care, they are still not widely adopted.
One of the barriers is that healthcare staff lack competencies in using and troubleshooting this new technology. Through co-producing a series of interdisciplinary workshops with students, academics and practitioners from the nursing and robotics disciplines, this project will investigate how the technological literacy of the future nursing workforce can be developed through education. Workshops will involve direct interaction of nursing students with robots in a simulated healthcare environment, and multidisciplinary discussions to co-design pedagogical opportunities to include digital technologies and robotics in nursing education.
