Bamboo-Timber Composite Materials for Structural Use
Based on the successful proof-of-concept pioneering timber structures manufactured in the university lab, the proposed project aims to explore the potentials to 1) develop an innovative prestressed Bamboo-timber Sandwich Composite Beam; 2) to improve the I-bone Bamboo-timber Composite Beam with the support of the manufacturing expertise and capacity from the industry. If proved to be feasible, this will be a ground-breaking innovation which introduces prestressed technology into the engineered wood products. The proposed study will be the first attempt to produce the beams in the industrial environment and then, test and validate the new design in the university lab.
