BE-ST UK Mass Timber Handbook
The purpose of this project is to draw upon track record of research carried out by Edinburgh Napier University on home grown mass timber systems and expand upon this via each of the six topics:
1. Selection, grading and pre-processing of raw material
2. Structural optimisation and appraisal (numerical)
3. Experimental work (lab based)
4. Manufacture options and quality assurance
5. Design and detailing
6. Pilot manufacture, construction and appraisal
Knowledge generated in the process will provide the necessary evidence base for market impact. Each of these chapters will from this process be capable of being converted into a journal publication with the intent of creating a compendium of articles capable of forming a ‘UK Mass Timber Handbook’ – the 1st and original comprehensive set of information about UK mass timber systems allowing designers to specify with confidence, for various building scenarios.
