Feasibility Study into Factors Affecting the Re-Use of Furniture and Corresponding Design Strategies
In the context of reducing raw material usage and establishing Scotland’s capacity for designing and making furniture for re-use, this study aims to:
● establish key factors in consumer decisions to re-use or discard domestic furniture, and
● propose strategies for modular furniture which specifically encourage re-use.
Building on knowledge and experience of Neat Ltd, a Glasgow-based pioneering provider of ultra-compact dwellings, this project aims to lay foundations for new ways of making furniture that address challenges and opportunities for re-use, based on rigorous observation and interview of users.
