  Since 2020, British Council has worked with partners from academic and creative sectors (private) to develop the necessary spaces where youth can reinterpret Nepal’s natural and cultural heritage to develop a stronger understanding of their contributions to climate solution-making. In Our Hands, British Council’s Culture Responds programme supporting youth entrepreneurship, has so far supported twelve (12) projects with development grants and more than 50 have taken part in its incubation events. More than 100,000 have been reached with the offer, including 1,200 people through exhibitions and events.
To deliver the following objectives:
- Create an inclusive, safe space for youth and practitioners to discuss global challenges and to reinterpret heritage as social and economic capital for sustainable and inclusive development
- Raised awareness of diverse actions and actors proactive in climate change – support Nepal’s nationally determined goals to promote youth/women and indigenous groups participation
- Document, research and disseminate roles of craft heritage, indigenous knowledge systems in Nepal’s economic development
- Provide opportunities for under-represented groups – including creative actors who do not have access to relevant resources
- Engage local government and communities to strengthen confidence in traditional practices and industries.
- Promote creative sector responses with industry stakeholders and decisionmakers
Applied Arts Scotland together with In Our Hands partners in Nepal proposes to conduct activities in 2023-24 for In Our Hands by undertaking the following responsibilities:
- Lead on any development or amendment activities to enhance the efficiency of the Craft Toolkit
- Deliver an orientation and introduction of the In Our Hands programme – lead on the use of Craft Toolkit lessons and resources (business planning) and relevant topics including the Quintuple Bottomline
- Contribute to a selection panel which will review the shortlist of the open call for participation for 2023-24 activities
- Participate in coordinating meetings, by sharing updates and actively engaging regular reflections and inputs to agreed monitoring and evaluation frameworks
- Provide comments and feedback on call text and media – contribute to the communication plan as required – agree to promote the organisation’s participation in the programme through its official channels – providing full credit to all partners and organisers
- Assure lessons, feedback is accounted for in all inputs to the programme delivery
- Participate (virtually) in the Nepal-facing pitching event to score ideas and select research grantees
- Review research from up to 10 individual/groups to identify the final development grantees
- Provide mentoring to grantees during development phase – helping them towards achieving their outputs for presentation and reporting
- Support documentation of the programme activities by participating in media production activities, reporting exercises and after-action reviews
- Support alumni engagement through planned activities
- Support the development of the exhibition and cultural events to showcase the development grant outputs (Nepal facing)
- Contribute to In Our Hand’s research and insights extension by nominating potential working committee members and through participation in an induction to initiate the Working Committee on their actions
