Ivermectin impacts on freshwater organisms in a variable world
The overview of the research objectives is given below. There will be scope for the candidate to adapt and develop these as the project progresses and their expertise as an independent researcher grows.
1.Undertake laboratory-based toxicological assessment of ivermectin on key freshwater organisms from different ecosystems (e.g. mayflies, hemiptera).
2.Examine the effect of multiple-stressor combinations (ivermectin/nitrate/phosphate) on toxicological responses.
3.Establish levels of ivermectin in manure, water, sediment and aquatic invertebrate tissues in waterbodies across a catchment, the extent of temporal variation and their relationship to livestock characteristics and density.
4.Combine the information gained from the preceding objectives to guide environmental management of ivermectin in livestock treatment.
