JIGSAW-E: Joint implementation of Guidelines for Osteoarthritis in Western Europe
In the EU OA is primarily managed in primary care, yet delivery of quality OA care is highly variable within and between countries. International guidelines for OA recommend core treatments, such as written information and advice on exercise and physical activity, should be offered to all people with symptomatic OA. JIGSAW-E addresses the unmet need in the management of OA across 5 European partners focussing on quality non-pharmacological therapy: written patient information; exercise, physical activity, healthy eating and weight management advice. In 2016/17 JIGSAW-E introduced a new model of supported self-management in UK general practice pilot sites and evaluated its impact using audits of OA Quality Indicators collected using an OA e-template and routinely recorded general practice medical records. JIGSAW-E supports the self-management of OA, providing a model of quality care incorporating 4 key primary care innovations:- OA guidebook written by patients and health professionals- Model OA consultation for primary care- Training for primary healthcare professionals- Medical record and patient derived Quality Indicators of OA care
