SRHE_What role does (or should) higher education research play in higher education policy? An exploratory study
This research project will explore and explain the role that higher education research plays in the higher education policy process. It is argued that academic research needs to reinforce its institutional role as an independent body to critique policy and policy making as well as its role as a member of the higher education policy network and key stakeholder in the development of policy. Such an argument requires a critical and structured study of the current role that academic research, researchers and higher education institutions play in higher education policy development. The aim of this research is to provide insights and explanations for how research can better inform and shape future higher education policy. In doing so, the objective is to open up debate around the role of research in policy and to help higher education researchers better understand what kind of research impacts on policy and why.
