A German student talks about her studies at Edinburgh Napier.
"I really enjoy studying in a multicultural environment and feel very much at ease thanks to the welcoming and open atmosphere which the University offers."
What I like most about Edinburgh Napier University is the international community of students and lecturers. I really enjoy studying in a multicultural environment and feel very much at ease thanks to the welcoming and open atmosphere which the University offers. Edinburgh Napier University provides efficient and modern facilities across the three campuses. The libraries are well equipped with lots of computers and printers and the staff is very friendly and supportive. In addition, the silent study areas are great for students who need a quiet environment to study effectively. The University offers group study rooms which consist of conference tables and big screens. They come in handy when students need to work in groups and prepare presentations. I was very pleased to find out that Edinburgh Napier University offers academic skills support. The free of charge academic workshops are great for students who have been out of university for a while and want to refresh their memory on academic writing, citations and on how to deliver good presentations.
"I was very impressed with the quality of the facilities, the interactive approach of the courses and the excellent student support."
In 2015 I was an Erasmus student for one semester at Edinburgh Napier University. I was very impressed with the quality of the facilities, the interactive approach of the courses and the excellent student support. I particularly enjoyed studying in an international environment and meeting students from all over the world. I became good friends with fellow students and together we explored Edinburgh and beautiful parts of Scotland. Since I had such a brilliant university and personal experience, I decided to come back to Scotland and enroll for a master degree at Edinburgh Napier University. After my undergraduate degree in Germany, I gained work experience in marketing while working in a German-Italian consulting company. I realised that I enjoy dealing with international clients, supporting them with their international marketing strategies and that therefore I would like to pursue a career in this field.
"What I like the most is that the programme is very interactive and requires to work in groups."
The course is a perfect balance between academic theory and practical work. The modules consist of lectures on marketing theory which we apply to real business scenarios. What I like the most is that the programme is very interactive and requires to work in groups. This gives us the opportunity to meet and work with people from international backgrounds and exchange different ideas and knowledge. I particularly enjoy modules which allow us to be creative while creating and developing communication and marketing plans, just as in a real working environment.
"What I like about Edinburgh is that you have nature, architecture and culture all in one place. I consider myself lucky to study in such a great city!"
What I like about Edinburgh is that you have nature, architecture and culture all in one place. Edinburgh has a very charming old town with beautiful historical buildings and lovely green spaces. Some of the museums and city walking tours are free and give you the opportunity to learn a great deal about Scotland’s history and culture. I consider myself lucky to study in such a great city! One of my favourite places in Edinburgh is Arthur’s seat, a volcanic hill, which offers stunning views over the city and the ocean. What makes Edinburgh pleasant is that it is a very walkable city which allows you to continuously discover new places.
"There is something going on every day and students can get great discounts and enjoy culture and nightlife without worrying too much about your budget."
When I moved to Edinburgh, I was surprised to find out that the city has several universities and that the student population is massive. Therefore, the city is very student-friendly and student-oriented. There is something going on every day and students can get great discounts and enjoy culture and nightlife without worrying too much about your budget. I tried Ceilidh dancing, which is the traditional Scottish country dancing. It is a fun experience and a good way to immerse into Scottish culture. Many great places can be easily reached from Edinburgh by car, train or coach. Glasgow, St Andrews and Stirling are worth seeing and nearby. My highlight so far was the trip to the Highlands and the Isle of Skye. I was mesmerised by the beauty of this place with its iconic castles, mountains, lakes and waterfalls!
"I consider the master's degree at Edinburgh Napier University a key step to completing my education and preparing for a career in marketing."
After graduation I would like to work in an international environment and contribute to the development and promotions of brands. I would be keen on working in the marketing communication, advertising or consulting sector and enjoy having a position which allows me to apply my language skills and intercultural competences. I consider the master's degree at Edinburgh Napier University a key step to completing my education and preparing for a career in marketing. The MSc Marketing programme gives me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in marketing theory and test them in real business scenarios. Moreover, the practical and group work approach of the courses expose me to a different learning method than in Germany, thus greatly enriching my overall university education. Finally, I am able to refine my English skills, both oral and written while benefiting from exchanges with students from all over the world.
