Rankings and league tables

Every year we are ranked in the Guardian University Guide, The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide and the Complete University Guide. We are also included in the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings and the prestigious QS Stars international rankings. Below is a summary of our current rankings.

The Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021

#1 Modern University in Scotland (ST GUG 2021)

We are officially The Times and The Sunday Times top modern university in Scotland, having climbed 38 places in the Good University Guide 2021.

We have been recognised as The #1 Highest Climbing University in Scotland for 2021 by the Guardian University Guide (2021) 

We’re now ninth in Scotland and 63rd in the UK, building further on the success of this year's Guardian University Guide and the National Student Survey (NSS) 2020 results!

The Higher Education Statistics Agency 2016/17


The Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) found that our postgraduate graduate employment stood at 96.2% as of 2016/17.

2022 National Student Survey

For the third year running, Edinburgh Napier is number one in the capital for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS)

We are also ranked number one in the UK for:

  • Biomedical Sciences (1st of 75)
  • Biosciences (1st of 34)

We are also top five in the UK for:

  • Children's Nursing (3rd of 52)
  • Human Resource Management (3rd of 39)
  • Law (3rd of 108)

We are internationally recognised

In the 2019 QS Stars international university rankings, the quality of our teaching, internationalisation and employability were all recognised, with the University scoring five stars in each category. The University overall scored four stars.
