Leadership and collaborative working are recognised as critical skills for public health professionals. The demand for individuals who can lead multi-disciplinary teams, manage complex health initiatives, and influence public health policy continues to grow.
This online CPD course will enhance participants' career prospects by equipping them with advanced leadership skills, practical tools for collaboration, and an understanding of public health systems. Additionally, by building these competencies, participants will be better prepared to take on senior roles within public health organisations or public health policy positions.
Enhance your knowledge and understanding in relation to the theories and models of leadership and management relevant to public health. Explore theories of leadership, collaboration and partnership and their implications for health improvement in public health settings. We will explore different public health contexts including community development, health promoting projects, health services and emergency planning. Students will reflect on their learning needs in relation to skills for collaborative leadership for service improvement. Students will also critically consider other models for planning, implementing, leading and evaluating public health projects in a range of contexts.
The rationale for the course is to develop practitioners with the necessary skills to address complex public health issues – these challenges often involve multiple sectors, organisations, and professionals working together. Effective leadership and the ability to collaborate across these domains are essential for designing and implementing successful public health interventions. Collaborative working is a cornerstone of modern public health practice.
What will I learn?
This Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course on Leadership and Collaborative Working in Public Health is designed to equip public health professionals with the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to lead and work effectively in multi-professional, multi-agency and cross-sectoral teams.
The module is presented in five units with each unit covering one topic. You are required to work through the workbooks within these units and complete the questions at the end of each unit. The questions require a 50% pass mark which will then open the next unit for you to complete. Once all five units are complete the final assessment will be open for you to take.
Objectives
- Gain an understanding of the key concepts and theories of leadership and collaboration in public health.
- Develop an awareness of skills that can be applied to lead and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, organisations and other professionals in different contexts ie. community development, health promotions projects/interventions, health services and emergency planning.
- Distinguish and explore between different models for planning, implementing, leading and evaluating public health projects and their application to public health practice at the individual and population level
Gain the knowledge and understanding of the different strategies that can be applied to enhance critical skills in facilitating, negotiating and influencing public health approaches and the contribution made by a range of disciplines and professionals to the development and provision of public health services for health improvement.

How will I be assessed?
Once all five units are complete, this will unlock the final assessment which will comprise of a set of questions covering all topics in the module. The final assessment requires a 50% pass mark to complete the module and release the certificate of completion.
What will I get after completion of the course?
Successful completion of the module will issue a Certificate of Completion. This certificate can be used for your own professional CPD records.
