About this course
This module will provide the statutory training for specified health professionals (currently, dentists, opticians and registered nurses) to authorise medical treatment permitted under the Adults with Incapacity (Scotland) Act 2000.
There will are two components to this training:
(1) Delivery of materials and case studies; and
(2) Assessment
How you’ll be taught and assessed
Delivery will involve:
(1) Familiarise yourself with the law using materials accessed in our virtual learning environment, with references and links to other information and resources; and
(2) Join voluntarily our monthly online session that provides participants with the opportunity to discuss and apply the knowledge acquired via provided case studies and/or examples of your own professional experience.
Assessment will involve:
(1) Supervisor supported assessments of capacity; and
(2) Completing a S47 certificate; and
(3) A reflective case-based account of 2,000 words to demonstrate participants’ learning in practice and achievement of the learning outcomes.
Entry requirements
This course is aimed at dentists, opticians and registered nurses.
There are no specific academic requirements if you are in one of these categories. However, for your application to be accepted you must identify a workplace supervisor who has (a) already successfully undertaken the training; and (b) provided written consent to act as your supervisor.
