This is a ten-credit module designed to provide colleagues the tools to engage with education as a field of scholarship and apply it directly to their role.

What will I learn?

This course runs over one trimester, online with fortnightly synchronous webinars, two formative assessments and one summative assessment involving:

  • Searching the education literature
  • Evaluating sources critically
  • Identify the debates shaping the sector
  • Using scholarship and evidence as a basis for effective practice in teaching and supporting learning..

You will be taught by experts from the Department of Learning and Teaching Enhancement.

Module tutor is Imi Dencer-Brown.

This course takes place 7 September to 21 December 2026.

Expect a time commitment of 93 hours independent study and 7 hours synchronous online webinars.

Edinburgh Napier University staff: free first 10 to register interest, and £486 thereafter.

Staff from ENU partner colleges (Fife College, City of Glasgow College, Edinburgh College and West Lothian College): the first three staff from each institution to register their interest will be offered a free place; thereafter, the fee is £486 per participant.

How will I be assessed?

There will be two formative assessments and one summative assessment. Upon successful completion you will have 10 credits recorded for 'Evidence-informed teaching and professional practice in tertiary education'.
