Upcoming events
Our Every Action Counts Campaign, developed within our 2023/24 academic year, will continue throughout 2024/25 and beyond. The 2024/25 campaign will build on everything we led and developed as a community within our 2023/24 academic year. The 2024/25 campaign will also focus on raising further awareness of campus and student accommodation opportunities to reduce energy consumption.
Overall, our 2024/25 activity, as per previous academic years, will encapsulate a number of events and initiatives that we lead and support each year including the Scottish Government Climate Week in September and our own Sustainability Week in March.

Scotland’s Climate Week - October 2023
The
Every Action Counts campaign was launched during Climate Week in October 2023, marking the beginning of a university-wide effort to engage staff and students in reducing energy consumption. The campaign’s core message was simple: by making small, conscious choices, we can collectively make a significant impact on our environment. During Climate Week, we raised awareness about the importance of energy conservation and provided practical tips for reducing energy use in daily activities.
Sustainability Week - March 2024
In March, we celebrated Sustainability Week 2024 with a series of engaging events across our campuses. Highlights included the bike-powered smoothie machine, a free tree giveaway, the ENSA clothes swap, and various guests. Attendees also benefited from Dr. Bike sessions, fair trade tips, and contributions from organisations such as Living Streets Scotland and Home Energy Scotland.
A notable success was the giveaway of 410 smoothies and 120 trees. The week showcased our commitment to environmental consciousness and community engagement, making a significant impact on our campus sustainability efforts and reducing waste.
The Sustainability Society and Conservation Volunteering Society showcased their initiatives, and representatives from Home Energy Scotland, Lothian Buses, and Living Streets Scotland offered valuable resources and information. Dr. Bike provided free bike checks, promoting cycling as a sustainable mode of transport.
Earth Day - April 2024
As part of our commitment to sustainability and in celebration of Earth Day, we invited Home Energy Scotland to host a webinar for our staff. This informative session was focused on providing general energy-saving advice and practical tips. Participants learned various strategies to reduce their energy consumption and improve efficiency at home. The webinar also included valuable resources and signposts for those seeking further assistance.
