Reducing our carbon footprint together 

The Every Action Counts campaign is a key part of Edinburgh Napier University's commitment to sustainability and climate action. Launched during the 2023/24 academic year, it has grown into an embedded, yearly campaign that actively encourages students, staff and the wider university community to reduce their environmental impact.

This campaign directly supports the University's Environmental Sustainability Strategy and broader goal of achieving net zero carbon emissions. By enabling small, conscious actions and fostering a culture of responsibility, Every Action Counts is making a real difference.

What does the campaign involve?

Throughout the year, we shine a spotlight on everyday actions that contribute to meaningful change.

Year round campaign highlights

These themed campaign moments have now become annual fixtures:

• Climate Week (September/October): Launches the academic year with a strong message on energy awareness and behaviour change.
• Sustainable Heating (Autumn): Promotes efficient, low-carbon ways to keep warm as the temperature drops.
• Christmas Switch-Off (December): Encourages the University community to power down and reduce energy waste the winter break.
• Sustainability Week (March): Celebrates environmental action through events, activities and partnerships with external organisations.

Ongoing actions

Every Action Counts also includes:

• Energy-saving tips and tools for individuals and teams.
• Sustainability training and awareness sessions.
• Support for teams and departments to lower their carbon footprint in locally relevant ways.
• Staff sustainability network to share ideas and collaborate.
