About Norman E. Rosenthal, M.D.
Norman E. Rosenthal is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine. He is a highly cited researcher who has written over 200 scholarly articles and authored or co-authored eight popular books, including Transcendence and The Gift of Adversity.
He first came to prominence when he led the team that described seasonal affective disorder (SAD) and pioneered the use of light therapy for its treatment, thereby helping millions of people worldwide. His work has taken him on speaking engagements all over the world and he has appeared on national and international TV and radio.
Dr Norman E. Rosenthal is also a business and personal coach, and a public speaker. He speaks most often about the gifts in adversity, the health and creative benefits of Transcendental Meditation, and other mental health and wellness related issues. Audiences appreciate Rosenthal’s message, delivered with a warm and humorous touch, and have felt delighted while being educated and enlightened.

Kasia Dowhan-Reid - a veterinary surgeon and partner of six veterinary practices in and around the Edinburgh region. Her role is that of team leadership with a focus on team growth, colleague and business development. Ultimately, she is driven to create change in the vet work environment so that those who serve our pets and their owners can do so in a space that allows them to manage the challenges of the industry whilst flourishing in their chosen careers. Kasia learnt TM in 2016.
Dr Tom Pringle (aka Dr Bunhead) - A globe-trotting, freelance science communicator for almost 30 years, he is internationally renowned as a pioneer of performance-science shows and immersive training programmes in science communication, public engagement, and CPD from school to postgraduate level.
Dr David Eustace, Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University, will welcome the guests and introduce the event on behalf of the Psychology Department.
