AN Edinburgh Napier Global Online graduate has been appointed to the Government of Barbados as Minister of Industry, Innovation, Science and Technology.

Davidson Ishmael has been handed the task of driving the Caribbean island’s industrial and technological transformation agendas after successfully contesting St Michael North for the Barbados Labour Party in the January 19 general election.

Davidson first enrolled with Edinburgh Napier in our September 2015 intake for the MBA in Leadership & Innovation and submitted his final MBA project during the May 2017 trimester.

On completion of his specialised MBA, he then returned to enrol for his second Masters, the MSc Business Management in Entrepreneurship with the September 2017 cohort.

Davidson has now spoken out to encourage other students to take advantage of our Global Online programme, which offers students from around the world the chance to receive top quality business tuition without leaving their home country.

Davidson said: “I wanted to continue my education and I came across Edinburgh Napier’s website, and when I started to read through the testimonials and I looked at the course content, I realised a lot of what the university was offering aligned well with what I was trying to pursue in the future. It was almost a perfect fit.

“I asked a few persons that I know who had done some programmes before and they only had positive and wonderful things to say. I decided to try it and see what happens and it was a fantastic experience.”

Davidson added: “To be successful you have to be very dedicated. It calls for a lot of sacrifice so you have to be committed to the course work. My one tip would be to choose a course that you are passionate about, something that aligns well with your goals and keep that always at the forefront of your mind even when the going gets tough.

“There’s a lot of support. You have tons of people there with you. Even though you are online and probably in your own home sitting down, you do have a network of people that are an email away and they are always ready to just jump to your assistance.”

Dr Fawad Khaleel, Deputy Head of Global Online, is delighted with Davidson’s success story.

He said: “I think it shows how our Global Online provision is transforming lives by empowering people around the world through online education. This is also a great example of widening access, as we are committed to providing quality education to all.

“Our curriculum for online MBA and MSc is designed for an international audience and it provides a global outlook to our students, while simultaneously developing their leadership skills that allows them to succeed by making an immediate impact at their workplace.”

With access to your studies from wherever you are in the locations served by the Edinburgh Napier Global Online suite, students get the chance to not only break from the restrictions of their global location to study towards a business degree but also fit their studies around their life.

There's 24-hour access to the system, meaning students can not only sit down to study when they have time rather than follow a timetable, but they can also ask questions when they have the time to and as they arise.
