When you access eresources through Edinburgh Napier University Library (including ebooks, ejournals, databases and more), you're agreeing to follow copyright law and the terms of our licence agreements with publishers. These agreements outline how you can use the resources and who is allowed to access them.
Your Edinburgh Napier University login details are for your use only—please don’t share them with anyone else. Sharing a password with unauthorised users may result in your access being withdrawn.
Who can use Edinburgh Napier University eresources?
Current staff and current matriculated students on credit-bearing courses at Edinburgh Napier University are entitled to access licensed eresources for non-commercial use only (i.e. for private research and study).
If academic staff members are planning courses which involve other institutions, please contact library@napier.ac.uk.
What can I use Library eresources for?
You can use usually use our eresources to support your:
- Private study
- Teaching
- Research
As long as these activities are for non-commercial purposes.
Some publishers have specific rules about non-commercial use, please check their websites or contact library@napier.ac.uk.
What can I do with eresources?
For your own personal, non-commercial use, you’re usually allowed to:
- Print or save two articles from a journal issue
- Print or save a book chapter or 10% of a book
- Print or save limited extracts from a database

What can’t I do?
You must not:
- Download content systematically or excessively, including using tools like robots or scripts. This would be a serious breach of copyright and licence agreements
- Use eresources for commercial purposes
- Make multiple print or electronic copies of a single article or chapter
- Make print or electronic copies of more than two articles from a journal issue or one chapter from an ebook
- Share copies—either printed or digital—with unauthorised users
- Upload content to the internet or any shared network
- Remove or change any copyright notices, authors' names, journal / book / chapter / article titles or any other identifying information
- Alter or adapt material from the eresources
