We encourage collaborative working and work closely with the tourism, festival and event, and hospitality sectors to develop and support sustainable tourism practices. We aim to engage in research and knowledge exchange activities to drive economic, social and cultural recovery and growth across destinations and communities.

The TRC involves academics, research students and practitioners from a broad range of tourism destination contexts. Our research has expanded the theoretical foundation of key academic topics, influenced policy makers and supported practitioners. An inter-disciplinary group, we draw on expertise from across Edinburgh Napier University and from our national and international Visiting Professors.

We have a wide range of expertise including, though not limited to, the following themes:

• Sustainable tourism destinations;
• Sustainable festival and event experiences;
• Cultural heritage management;
• Critical Studies in tourism small business enterprises;
• Wellbeing and health tourism experiences.

We welcome applications for undergraduate and postgraduate study programmes and offer a range of opportunities for the tourism sector to engage with students during their studies, such as work-based learning, live projects, internships and recruitment.

Doctoral students

Our doctoral students contribute towards the research culture and reputation of the Tourism and Languages Subject Group. We provide a sound foundation in basic and advanced research methods for our doctoral students and develop researchers of the future who will bring critical thinking to the development theory and practice in our fields of expertise.

Please email Dr Constantia (Dina) Anastasiadou if you interested in doctoral studies and with any enquiries.
