Helping others succeed comes naturally to Craig Weldon.

Craig Weldon sitting on a sandy beach Having undertaken his postgraduate degree in Software Engineering at Edinburgh Napier, Craig is currently a Senior Analyst at the Scottish Parliament. Before finding his niche, Craig tried many different roles including casual labourer, submersible pilot and running his own music studio.

Craig remembers his time at ENU fondly, particularly the support he received from the University’s careers team. The guidance and encouragement he received from Edinburgh Napier’s employability experts gave Craig the confidence to enter the workforce.

Having reaped the benefits of a supportive network, Craig is committed to supporting others in any way he can.

Mentoring is a big part of Craig’s life. He has been a mentor at ENU since 2016 and is taking part in the University’s short-term summer mentoring programme, Micro Mentoring in 2021. He’ll mentor a fourth-year student who is graduating into an uncertain job market. In addition to this, Craig has offered his advice and guidance to school pupils through his partnership with the charity, Career Ready.

Craig is a big advocate for having an ‘accountability buddy’ - a colleague, friend or sometimes even a stranger who is tasked with making sure you follow through and achieve a set goal. He’s had many accountability buddies throughout his professional career. One of them helped keep him on track to achieve one of his long-term ambitions: to write a book!

Scotland's Story:Foundation is an account of Scotland’s history up to the year 1513 and was released in 2020.

Craig Weldon hillwalking, with a range of mountain peaks in the background This isn’t Craig’s only foray into the publishing world. He is also the author of The Weekend Fix – half walking guide, half coming-of-age tale, but a full love-letter to the Scottish outdoors.

Hillwalking has always been important to Craig. By 23 he’d achieved what many experienced walkers have failed to do, he’d bagged all the Munros. The Scottish hills are a solace for Craig; when times are tough, he finds comfort in the mountains.

The Weekend Fix is published by the International Booker Prize-winning Sandstone Press. The second edition has just been released and features a foreword by Munro-bagger and Instagrammer, Bee Leask.
