Why did you choose to study MSc International Business Management in Singapore with Edinburgh Napier?

Riya Gote standing in front of a pillar which says: 'Edinburgh Napier University Craiglockhart Campus' I had taken up a management subject as an elective while studying for my engineering undergraduate degree. I developed an immense interest in the subject and it shaped my choice of career.

When I was researching further study options in management, I came across many courses offered by international universities. Edinburgh Napier's MSc in International Business Management stole my attention as the course structure was perfect for me. I was really happy to see that the course was offered at PSB Academy in Singapore

The main reason I chose Singapore was that I had been there and had my relatives in the area. This decision changed my life 360 degrees.

What are your best memories from your student days?

I was appointed a Class Representative which helped me grow my network and understand each and every student and their problems. The best part was we had student-teacher meetings every few weeks which helped bridge the gap between students and staff.

My heart and brain are filled with dozens of memories which still bring a huge smile on my face. Every professor was unique and every lecture was fun. Dr Colin Mackenzie, who taught us Research Methodology, was great. He taught us not only the subject matter but also other things which helped us in our interviews and later in our career.

Why did you decide to start your own business, Scriberlee?

Sadly I didn’t land up in a job in Singapore. After returning to India, I worked with two companies and realized that I’m not made to work for someone, rather I’m someone who would help others with the job and my expertise. I explored my hidden talent which converted into the best opportunity of setting up my own digital marketing firm, Scriberlee.

What were the biggest challenges associated with starting a business?

Nothing comes easy in life!

Starting my own business affected my sleep, free time and other precious moments. But today when I look back I realise that it was all worth it!

Remember, “Work until you no longer have to introduce yourself.” To all those who are wanting to set up their business – Stay motivated with your goal, have an aim and keep faith in yourself. It is okay to fail. It is okay to restart. What is not okay is you failing and not getting up and restarting. Before starting any business make sure you are motivated enough and have all the knowledge about the competitors. Plan out your work and work on the plan. Starting a business can be overwhelming but it is better to have a mentor who helps you overcome your glitches. All the best!
