Let's Come Together

Reuniting is not only an opportunity to reflect on the past but a celebration of the present and the possibilities of the future.

“Reunions go beyond nostalgia,” comments  Alumni Relations Officer, Morven Skirving. “Of course there is much reminiscing, but coming together offers a powerful blend of connection, opportunity, and legacy.”

The Alumni Team is here to help you get in touch with classmates if you’re needing some momentum in getting a reunion organised. “I’d encourage any alumni thinking of getting together to contact us. We can help you to reach your classmates and enhance your reunion through the support we can offer,” adds Morven. “Feel free to contact us at any time to chat through what you might like to do."

“We decided to revisit the University to mark our 40th anniversary,” comments Jon Stembridge. “It was hugely enjoyable to visit our former studio spaces, bringing back many happy memories of a formative time in our lives.”

The reunion brought friends from as far as Australia and up and down the UK together, some who had not met up since leaving the University. “Staff from the Alumni team gave us a great tour of the campus—a perfect starting point for a weekend of visits to old haunts and much reminiscing about experiences that bound us together,” Jon adds.

“We spent five years together between 1980 and 1985 on the BSc Science with Industrial Studies course,” explains Dave McLaren. “We all enjoyed and valued our time and experiences at Napier, going on to have a wide variety of careers. Those of us still relatively local to Edinburgh meet up about twice a year. We had a great time at our reunion and, despite the many changes, visiting Craiglockhart brought back happy memories of our time there, and of our contemporaries that are, sadly, no longer with us.”

“We came together for a 30-year reunion in 2024. It had been ten years since our last get together, so it felt about time to reunite,” explains Emma Gilmour. “Located across the globe, it was great to come together again.” Engaging in a campus tour was a top highlight of their reunion: “We really enjoyed wandering through the Merchiston campus again and it was interesting to see how the University has developed. We visited a few auld haunts together, had a drink in The Argyle Bar, and topped the day off nicely with an Indian banquet! It was really fantastic to catch up.

Milestone anniversaries for Journalism graduates

Class of 1993 meeting up at the 50 Years of Journalism celebration event

In 2025, the University celebrated 50 years of delivering its pioneering journalism course, the longest-running programme of its kind in Scotland. A special alumni event was held in the Scottish Parliament building hosted by former ENU lecturer and MSP, Maggie Chapman, with an address from Principal Professor Sue Rigby, while alumnus Russell Findlay, MSP and Leader of the Scottish Conservative Party, joined the panel discussion with Dean of the School of Arts & Creative Industries, Diane MacLean.

Our Journalism alumni community is a strong one. Woody Morris, a 1993 Journalism graduate comments: “The class of 1993 really was special and still is. We were an eclectic mix from different backgrounds, and we had a lot of fun during our time at Edinburgh Napier. That spirit still shines through whenever we meet. At our 30-year reunion, we laughed so much and took pleasure in reconnecting and celebrating each other’s lives. We still hugely value our community.”

Journalism at Edinburgh Napier turns 50

In November 2025, over 200 people joined us at a special event at the Scottish Parliament to mark half a decade of ENU's pioneering journalism course.

As well as catching up with old classmates, alumni shared their advice for the next generation of Scotland's writers, publishers, podcasters and more.

Watch this event recap and hear what our alumni had to say.
