Digital ethnography research design - School of Computing Seminar Series

Start date and time

Wednesday 14 March 2018

Location

Core44, Room C44, Merchiston Campus

In this seminar, John Morrison will present the design considerations for a participatory action research project that aims to generate insights of the barriers for participation in higher education among care experienced individuals. Early exploration focused on examining lens-based digital media inspired by an approach called ‘shared anthropology,’ with the aim of eliciting and amplifying authentic voices of participants. Initial explorative studies with Edinburgh Napier students used smart phones and GoPro cameras to explore multiple perspectives on an experience. The insights generated can compliment qualitative or mixed method research strategies which are looking to investigate the worldview of participants on a topic or subject area.
