The International Centre for Management and Governance Research (ICMGR) hosted an Ethical Finance and Community Development Forum (#EFCDF18) earlier this month.

The forum was chaired by Dr Nazam Dzolkarnaini, Associate Professor in Accounting and Finance in the Business School, who is leading the ICMGR’s Ethical Finance Research Cluster.

The forum was inspired from a discussion with The Lord Sheikh at the UK House of Lords, following the stakeholders meeting of the UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on Islamic Finance (APPGIF) in May 2018. It aims to bridge the knowledge gap between community leaders and practitioners of ethical finance (including Islamic finance) industry. Addressing the gap is important to ensure that the industry prospers to serve the real needs of community.

In his keynote speech at #EFCDF18, The Lord Sheikh also highlighted opportunities for UK-based academics to export ethical finance education abroad. ICMGR is in a suitable position to pursue this educational agenda given the Centre’s strong interest and committed engagement on ethical finance under the leadership of professionally qualified research-active academics with prior corporate experience.

At the end of the forum, it was proposed ICMGR will collaborate with interested parties to take this agenda forward.
