Dr Cristian Surubaru in Romania as an expert for a second European Commission consultancy project
Last week, Dr Neculai-Cristian Surubaru (The Business School at Edinburgh Napier) was is in Romania, conducting fieldwork as part of a second consultancy project on behalf of the European Commission. The project, in which Cristian acts as a country expert, is led and implemented by PPMI Lithuania and the European Policies Research Centre in Glasgow.

The study investigates the evolution of the organisational models adopted by public administrations from all across the European Union (EU) to manage EU public funds between 2000 and 2020.

During his fieldwork, Cristian has been welcomed by Mr Vasile Asandei, the Director General of the North-East Regional Development Agency / Agentia pentru Dezvoltare Regionala Nord-Est, a key contributor working on local and regional development.

Cristian has spent nearly week in the country collecting data and talking to several directors and heads of unit within the organisation on topics ranging from institutional and administrative capacity to local and business / start-up and innovation developments and policies, in this geographical area of Romania (which also borders Ukraine).

His findings will be reported to the European Commission and will contribute to a comparative set of case studies which will aim to have an impact on how institutions dealing with EU public funds will look like after 2027.
