  Purpose: To discuss the premature deaths of people with intellectual disabilities internationally, what is being done and what is needed to make a real difference.

Rationale: People with intellectual disabilities are dying much younger than other people, across many countries. Some areas are trying to tackle the premature deaths of people with intellectual disabilities. This round table will discuss what needs to happen to effectively tackle premature deaths, and what is actually happening. The round table will share evidence and knowledge internationally and foster international collaboration.

Each of the five discussants will present a short ‘lightning talk’ of five minutes maximum, addressing the question “What one thing will really make a difference in tackling the early deaths of people with intellectual disabilities?”, followed by a general discussion about what is needed to effectively tackle premature deaths, and what is actually happening (or not) in different places.
