Exploring the Relationship between Hotel Renovation and Hotel Inspection
Previous research affirms that hotel inspection is the main force behind renovation in small and medium hotels in Egypt. This finding provided the impetus for focusing on the relationship between renovation practices and hotel inspection within the context of new product development in Egypt. This is a research area that has received less attention in the literature. This exploratory study provides findings from interviews with hotel inspectors in Egypt. The hotel inspectors' opinions regarding hotel renovation as well as the perception on the renovation usage in national hotels are investigated. Then, perceptions in relation to the current hotel specification and grading methods in Egypt are explored. Renovation barriers, as well as NPD in Egyptian hotels are also discussed. This article also deals with the impact of globalisation on Egyptian hotels. The findings seem to indicate that there is a massive gap in the relationships between the Egyptian Hotel Inspection Sector and the SME hotel categories since they do not talk the same language or operate on the same wavelength.
