Meander-line filter for short range radio communications
Filters and antennas play a significant part in many different RF and microwave transceiver systems. This paper describes the design and testing of two RF filters for use in narrow-band short-range radio communications. The structures of these filters use meander-line geometry, with zigzag layouts subject to design requirements of realizing a Chebyshev response. The first design is a single stage filter with a fractional bandwidth of around 2.0 %, and insertion loss S 21 less than-0.20 dB. The second design is a two-stage filter with 3.0% fractional bandwidth and S 21 < 0.4 dB. Both prototype designs were fabricated on MX2 substrate of e r = 2.5, thickness h = 1.6 mm and tangent loss of 0. 002. The measured results show good agreement with simulation.
