Motor traffic reduction: A road to be travelled
Road traffic injuries (RTIs) are the eighth-leading cause of death worldwide, accounting for 1.35 million deaths each year (Road Safety, 2022). Vehicle speed is a major contributory factor in many road traffic deaths and life changing injuries. It is therefore a pandemic and major public health issue, not only in terms of deaths and injuries, but also due to negative impacts on perceptions of safety and willingness to undertake active travel, and more broadly quality of life, and wellbeing.
