Exploring knowledge and understanding of prostate and oesophageal cancer in people with intellectual disability
People with intellectual disability (PWID) are living longer, and at risk of age related diseases e.g. cancer. Research on cancer in PWID is limited, but identifies a different pattern of cancer from the general population with higher incidence of oesophageal cancer but less prostate cancer. The aim of this project is to review the current literature on oesophageal and prostate cancer to inform four focus group discussions with PWIDs to explore what they know about these cancers. The findings will help to inform further work on raising awareness in this population.
