Study with us: September 2020

A message for students planning to, or thinking about, joining Edinburgh Napier in September 2020.

We have been working hard over the past few months to make sure that our campuses are ready to support your learning and we can now let you know what you can expect as a new student in trimester 1. Be assured that your health, safety and wellbeing is our top priority.

A warm welcome

First up will be Welcome Week – an opportunity to welcome those of you who are new to our community and to get involved in new activities. We’ll help you find all the services and information you need to succeed, from student wellbeing and inclusion, to careers and academic skills. While this year will no doubt be different from usual, we’ll make sure you get off to a great start.

And Welcome Week will just be the start of a programme of engaging activities we are planning. We have a dedicated team looking at a range of on-campus and virtual events to make sure you enjoy the broad student experience that you would expect – both academic and social – and that we are committed to delivering.

Learning experience

For your studies, we will be providing a blended learning experience, which means that some teaching will be on campus, with other aspects delivered online. Teaching will take place on campus wherever possible and we will make all modules available for remote access. This will include some pre-recorded activities, for example lectures, as well as opportunities for you to participate in group learning and real-time discussions with your lecturers and tutors.

Specialist activities held in studios, labs and workshops will take place on campus, as far as possible. If this is not possible, we will introduce alternative arrangements or reschedule for a later date to ensure you don’t miss out.

Your programme teams and leaders will be providing regular updates over the coming weeks.

We understand that even with the easing of restrictions, some of you will be unable to come on to campus and be assured that we will work with you to ensure that you receive the learning support and access to the study materials you need.

Health and safety

Making sure that you are safe and comfortable is our top priority and we will be putting in place a range of measures such as social distancing, hand sanitisation facilities, one-way systems, and changes to how you enter and exit campus buildings. These are all designed to make moving around as safe as possible. We will also have signs around each campus so that you can be confident of what the new rules are.

Libraries and services

Our libraries will be open, so that you can access learning materials to help you during your studies. Our library staff will also be on hand to help and we will have dedicated study spaces available as well as various options for technical equipment to support you. There will also be a range of catering options open on campuses.

All our student wellbeing, career advice and other support services will be available to ensure you can make the most of your time with us.

Accommodation

Our student accommodation will be open and available, and adapted as required to keep you safe.

The city of Edinburgh

The beautiful city of Edinburgh itself remains a wonderful, safe place to live and study. With a higher percentage of green space than any other city in the UK, you’ll enjoy all the benefits of a thriving, capital city but with plenty of space in which to relax and chill. And its compact size means you can easily walk or cycle to get where you need to go.

We look forward to meeting you soon

Edinburgh Napier is a great place for you to develop the skills and attributes that will make you an ideal candidate for whatever career you pursue. This remains true in these uncertain times. The value of a degree remains incredibly important to ensure you will thrive in the careers and jobs of the future. We are committed to making sure that your experience is as rewarding and memorable as those who have studied with us before this pandemic.

Everyone at Edinburgh Napier is looking forward to welcoming you. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and keep a look out for future updates.
