We see ourselves as contributing to the understanding and development of Scots law and policy through collaborative and multi-disciplinary work, in Scotland and beyond, to bring about positive change.

We aim to engage in a meaningful way with our stakeholders: academics, legal professionals, law- and policy-makers, third sector organisations, and the people impacted by Child and Family Law.

We have a wide range of expertise including, though not limited to, the following research themes:

  • Families and Relationships
  • Children’s Rights
  • Child Protection
  • Views of the Child
  • Law and Legal Policy
  • Human Rights
  • Gender
  • Social Justice

Collaboration

We welcome collaboration with those involved in various aspects of family law. This could be in terms of research, or with our students studying on the LLB, for example such as work-based learning opportunities, live projects, internships and recruitment.

Doctoral students

Our doctoral students contribute towards the research culture and reputation of Centre and the Law Subject Group. We develop researchers of the future who will bring critical thinking to the development of theory and practice in our fields of expertise.

Please email Dr Rob Clucas (r.clucas@napier.ac.uk ) or Professor Richard Whitecross (r.whitecross@napier.ac.uk ) if you would like to discuss the possibility of doctoral study within the Centre.
