Now a sales operation coordinator in Norway, Norwegian graduate Ingrid shares her student experience at Edinburgh Napier University.
Ingrid Thornes, MSc International Business Management
"I would not have secured my current job without my education and international experience in Scotland!"
Choosing to study MSc International Business Management was an easy choice as I have a strong passion for travelling and understanding cultural differences. I know I wanted an international career where I can communicate with people around the world and understand their customs. My course was the perfect choice, as my fellow students were from countries from all around the world. I have made friends for life in China, India, Germany, Denmark and have also met a few students from Norway as well!
Today I work for a tour operator focusing on sustainable tourism. Among other things, I customise and calculate trips for travellers looking to visit Norway. I also join travellers visiting Bergen for a local hike showing them Bergen from a local perspective.
My master's degree at Edinbrugh Napier University has been extremely valuable and I would not have secured my current job without my education and international experience in Scotland. In my current job, I mainly communicate in English as most of our clients are from English- speaking countries.
"Employers appreciate international experience and education"
Prior to submitting my masters thesis I had already received two job offers by the beginning of August 2017, indicating how much employers appreciate international experience and education. Employers today value candidates that have international experience since it gives them an indication that you have managed to study hard with a different language in a different and unfamiliar education system. It also gives them an indication that you are able to learn quickly and not afraid to challenge yourself outside your comfort zone.

"It was the best year of my life"
My experience of studying in beautiful Edinburgh and at Edinburgh Napier University was truly magnificent and an unforgettable experience. Despite all the hard work and stressful periods throughout university, it was the best year of my life! By choosing to study outside Norway, in an international environment I learnt a lot about myself as well as how to challenge myself. I would definitely recommend everyone to take the chance to do the same!
"If you are interested; take the chance!"
To be honest, I had mixed feelings about graduating and leaving ENU and Edinburgh. I love the city! It is so beautiful and unique. On one hand, I am very proud that I made the decision to study at Edinburgh Napier and forever grateful for all the fantastic people (both lecturers, fellow students, and friends for life) I was lucky enough to get to know during my stay in Edinburgh. It's so sad that it's all over! I feel like the last year flew by so quickly. The people in Edinburgh are really nice, and Scotland is so beautiful! I was, and I am still considering moving to Scotland for a couple of years- that is how much I enjoyed my time there!
If you are interested; take the chance! It is worth every penny and you will have the time of your life- just like I did!
