Future Science: advances that will shape the 21st century
We have come a long way since John Napier and his logarithms and calculating bones, but just as we have seen almost unbelievable advances in science over the past few centuries, we are on the cusp of the biggest revolution yet in our understanding of the world and how to control it.
This lecture will take you on a whirlwind tour of some of the most exciting developments in science and engineering. Are you ready for your self-mending bicycle? What about a pill that means you’ll never have a bad mood again? Are you up for living in space, or in a world where medicine is tailored to your specific DNA? Perhaps you’re getting ready for the moment that artificial intelligence simply… takes over? Jim Al-Khalili will cover topics ranging from the mind-bending – quantum computing and synthetic biology – to the important – climate change and energy – and the truly futuristic, like time travel and teleportation. This is your guide to what future may hold.
Doors open at 6pm / Lecture begins at 6.30pm followed by a Q and A
