Portrait of Professor Susan DawkesEvery day in Scotland almost 50 people die from heart and circulatory diseases, which kill more than eight million people each year globally.  People who have had heart attacks or heart procedures are invited to cardiac rehabilitation, however only around 50% attend. Even those who do attend have the ongoing risk of disease due to being overweight or having high blood pressure and cholesterol.
Does cardiac rehabilitation need rehabilitated? Come along and hear Susan Dawkes, Professor in Cardiovascular Health, as she considers:

• How can we get more people to attend cardiac rehabilitation?
• How do we make cardiac rehabilitation more effective in helping patients to lead healthier lives?
• How can healthcare professionals help to ensure patients are given individualised support?
• How can we ensure cardiac rehabilitation focuses on the “what matters to you?” as opposed to the “what’s the matter with you?”

Free parking is available at our Craiglockhart Campus, however we are well-served by public transport to and from the centre of the city. In addition, there are numerous cycle paths in the area and bike storage facilities on site.

This event is free to attend. Lecture is followed by a drinks reception at 19:30.
