Funded Research Information

The information below is to enable applicants to understand the processes involved at each stage following a successful outcome.  It provides answers to many frequently asked questions and has links to other key documents.

Fund Decision

  • Successful applicants will be informed via email within 10 working days of the Oversight Board meeting.
  • The letter will request the applicant to confirm they wish to proceed to the next stage.
  • Should the applicant decline the offer, the application will be closed.
  • Applicants who accept the offer will progress to the next stage, Offer Letter.

    Offer Letter

  • Applicants will be issued with an Offer Letter. The Offer Letter will have the Standard Terms & Conditions embedded within it, along with the application and any other relevant documents. There will also be a link to the Progress Report.

  • The applicant should provide missing information such as contact details, which sections are ‘not applicable’ to their application and any questions or queries they may have.
  • Once all information has been provided and all questions and queries resolved, a final version of the Offer Letter will be produced.

    Offer Letter Signature & Funding

  • The Offer Letter will be signed by Edinburgh Napier University and issued to the Awardee for signature via DocuSign.
  • Upon receipt of the signed Offer Letter and any other outstanding documents such as ethical approval, NHS support letters and CVs, Edinburgh Napier University will arrange for the first payment of the payment schedule.
  • Information regarding the project will be added to the fund’s webpage and a press release will be issued. The Lead PI will work in conjunction with ENU’s marketing team to produce the relevant information.

    Progress Reports and Audits

  • The Lead PI for the project will be required to submit a progress report at regular intervals during the project.
  • The dates the progress reports are expected will be documented in the Offer Letter.
  • Should the progress report highlight any areas of concern this will be addressed in the first instance via email. A more detailed conversation would occur via a Teams call.

    Disseminating Output

  • During the lifespan of the project the Lead PI may be asked to contribute to virtual meetings and/or one day events held by ENU or NHSScotland Assure.
  • Comprehensive information can be found in Section 13 Publication and Acknowledgement of Support of the T&Cs document. Lead PIs should ensure these conditions are adhered to.

    Final Report and Financials

  • The final progress report should be submitted with a final statement of expenditure as detailed in Section 2 of Appendix A of the T&Cs document.
