The Bright Red Triangle is our start-up incubator that supports our students, staff and alumni in developing enterprise skills and capturing business opportunities. We provide members with business advisers and a co-working space, where entrepreneurial people can come together to connect and collaborate on exciting new projects and ventures.

Our research

Research at the Business School has an applied focus, is policy and practice led, and is of both national and international relevance. In REF2021, the research activity at Edinburgh Napier University assessed as 'internationally excellent' and 'world-leading' is at 68%, moving us to the top position among Scotland's Modern universities for both research power and research impact.

Our research is disseminated through high quality publications, strengthening both our teaching and professional development activities. Research is focused on three Research Centres - The Centre for Child and Family Law and Policy; The Centre for Military Research, Education and Public Engagement; and The Tourism Research Centre - and the following eight Research Groups.

Futures & Analytics Research (FAR) Hub

The FAR group aims to advance digital literacy and data science. These skills are rapidly becoming necessary and invaluable practices in all sectors, particularly in supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Students and staff, alike, can gain skill sets that give them strategic advantages across industries.

Intercultural Communication (ICC)

The purpose of this research group is to establish a community within which ICC can be discussed across disciplines. Much of the theorising and conceptual adjacency in this field comes from ICC more broadly, allowing for cross-pollination and support for the development of sophisticated, interdisciplinary writing.

Law, Business and Sustainability (LBW)

The multidisciplinary group aims at building up and strengthening the contribution of Law in the Business School by enabling colleagues to develop collaborative projects that support wider Business School initiatives and interests, for example around work and Business for Good.

Napier Applied Business Research for Society (NABRS)

The group will focus on applying business research to solve societal problems, with a particular focus on sustainability, healthcare, analytics, supply chain, logistics, strategy and other business management issues.

We provide innovative research, consultancy, and commercialisation practice addressing contemporary interdisciplinary issues both nationally and internationally facing small businesses development, survival, and growth.

Urban Innovation Policy (Unity) Lab

The mission of Unity is to provide urban development actors worldwide with the evidence base required to manage complex urban transformations and to ensure that digital and smart technologies become a tool for boosting sustainable urban development and public value creation.

Our Staff

Many of our academic staff engage in consultancy and contract research activities and are committed to developing and applying their expertise across a range of applied themes. They maintain close links with industry, through professional body memberships, Knowledge Transfer Programmes, and both Placement and Live Project module supervision. This extensive range of professional experience is drawn upon in teaching.

An increasing percentage of our staff are also involved in research projects and research supervision, with research and scholarship underpinning our programme development activity
